Why Nanyang for foreign founders
Nanyang sits in the Nanyang Basin in southwestern Henan, bordering Hubei and Shaanxi. It is not a coastal export hub, but it has a broad industrial base and a large domestic market within reach. The city is known for oil and gas equipment, chemicals, food processing (including alcohol and tobacco), textiles, and pharmaceuticals. For foreign founders, the appeal is a lower cost base for manufacturing, warehousing or regional sales than in cities like Shanghai or Shenzhen.
Transport links are improving. Nanyang Jiangying Airport (NNY) has domestic flights, and the city is connected to China's high-speed rail network via Nanyang East Station on the Zhengzhou–Wanzhou line. Several expressways pass through the area. The local government has promoted industrial parks, including the Nanyang High-Tech Industrial Development Zone and the Nanyang New Energy Industry Cluster, though incentives vary and should be verified case by case.
Do not expect the same density of foreign service providers as in tier-1 cities. You will likely need a local accountant and a lawyer familiar with foreign investment procedures. That said, Nanyang can be a practical base for businesses targeting Henan and central China, especially in agriculture, machinery, chemicals and consumer goods.
